The Guardian:"Move over New York - bring on Bratislava"
Organizers: Vladimír Buek and Jason Twamley
Aim of the meeting:
The groundbreaking experimental achievements of recent years
now allow us to coherently manipulate a few qubit systems in
laboratories. In the next few years one will expect this to expand to at least several (up to ten) qubits. Therefore it is time to ask whether we can devfelop practical applicaations of few qubit systems. The purpose of this informal workshop will be to explore the variety of possible few qubit applications which could be developed initially in the lab and then developed towards more robust platforms.
These would specifically target applications which would benefit from the use of small scale quantum information processing (not necessarily full blow quantum computation), to achieve tasks either more efficiently or not possible with classical processing. these applications should be technically feasible within the next three years. This could include quantum metrology, quantum memories, interfaces between flying qubits and quantum memory, protocols for clock synchronization, frame synchronization, entanglement identifiers, quantum repeaters, quantum identification, quantum assisted GPS, quantum gyroscopes, small scale simulations of quantum channels.
Place of the meeting:
The whole meeting will be held in the Budmerice chateaux, where
the participants will be accomodated. Previous meetings in Budmerice:
YEP meeting 2003 and
Workshop on quantum information.
Address: Domov slovenskych spisovatelov, Kastiel, 90086 Budmerice, Slovakia,
